Hello Smiley,
Thank you for posting here. According to your description, I understand that you want to make some share folder do not sync when you logon and log off the computer. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know. Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can resolve this issue: Method 1: 1. Open windows explorer, click Tool menu, select Synchronize. 2. Click Setup button 3. Under the Synchronize the following checked items box, uncheck the items you do not want to sync 4. Uncheck the When I log on to my computer option and the When I log off my computer option 5. Click OK to finish. Then, test this issue. Method 2: 1. Open windows explorer, click Tool menu, select Folder Options. 2. In Folder Options, on the Offline Files tab, press CTRL+SHIFT, and then click Delete Files. The following message appears: The Offline Files cache on the local computer will be re-initialized. Any changes that have not been synchronized with computers on the network will be lost. Any files or folders made available offline will no longer be available offline. A computer restart is required. Do you wish to re-initialize the cache? 3. Click Yes two times to restart the computer. Then, test this issue. Method 3: If you cannot access the Offline Files tab, use this method to reinitialize the Offline Files (CSC) cache on the system by modifying the registry. Use this method also to reinitialize the offline files database/client-side cache on multiple systems. Add the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\NetCache Key Name: FormatDatabase Key Type: DWORD Key Value: 1 Note: The actual value of the registry key is ignored. This registry change requires a restart. When the computer is restarting, the shell will reinitialize the CSC cache and then delete the registry key if the registry entry exists. Warning: All cache files are deleted and unsynchronized data is lost. If there's anything else I can do for you, please do not hesitate to let me know. Hope these steps will give you some help. Thanks and have a nice day! Morning Terence,
Thank you for your very clear instruction. I would like to clarify some points and if I misunderstood your reply, please do not hesitate to get back to me. Would like to add the following information - on the desktop there are 2 network drives : 1. user on server 2. shared folder on server Does this have any thing to do with the Sync, don't expect so but just wondering. With method one, at present I have 2 selection. if I deselect the unwant one and uncheck the When I log on to my computer option and the When I log off my computer option, would the checked option still get sync ? If it does, when it will be sync ? With method two, when the cache is clear and offline will not be available, when will it be cache again so that offline will be available. I appology for being so many queries before I action as this client has been having various problems and I really need to be careful before I tried anything on any of their machines. From your description, I need to go round to every laptop and desktop to do this. Is there a way which I would do when user login or logout that this is automatically done. Thank in advance for your patience. Hello Smiley,
Thank you for kind update. By default the network driver will not sync except you enable it available offline. I suggest you perform the method 2# to remove any offline sync on the client, and then recreate the sync for the folders you want: After you perform the method 2# and restart the computer, right click the network folder which you want to sync, select Make available offline. Then it will do sync first. Then you can see them in the Items to Synchronize window. Meanwhile, you can tick the When I log on to my computer option and the When I log off my computer option to make the sync doing when you logon or logoff this computer, or you can right click the network folder or the offline file and select Synchronize to manually sync the offline files. Additional, as I know, we do not have an effect way to re-initialize the cache of offline together for multi client computers, we can only do this job one by one. Hope the info help. Thanks and have a nice day. Hi Terence,
Thank you for the update and the reminder. I repeat the actions (option 1 and option 2) and tested. At first, I thought I got it resolved but no, the share folder creeped back after logon again. But the check box wasn't check on the setup menu but it is checked on the first page when you go to My computer --> Tools --> Synchronize. I don't see the share folder being sync. Would it be possible to get rid of it at all so that no one get confused on whether it is being sync or it had not been sync ? Would it be possible that the 'sync' setting was done in a policy ? But I can't find it. Hello Smiley,
Thank you for your kind update. 1. I think this is not a client shared folders sync issue, you may enable folder redirect on SBS. Please check it and try to disable it to have a test: a. Open Server Management console on SBS b. Extend to Users node, click Configure My Documents Redirection link in right panel c. Select Do not redirect My Documents folders, click OK, d. Reboot client computer to test this issue. 2. Please check the properties for the problematic domain user account. a. Open Server Management console on SBS b. Extend to Users node, double click the problematic user accounts c. Select Profile tab, leave blank on User profile->Profile path and the Home folder->Local path. 3. If you want to make the shared folders do sync again, you can right click the shared folder which you want to sync, select Make available offline. Then it will do sync first. Then you can see them in the Items to Synchronize window. As you want to configure the sync setting via GPO, we can find the settings in: Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->Network->Offline Files Hope these steps will give you some help. Thanks and have a nice day! Best regards, Terence Liu(MSFT) Microsoft CSS Online Newsgroup Support Get Secure! - www.microsoft.com/security ================================================== === This newsgroup only focuses on SBS technical issues. Hi Terence,
This is very strange. What is your view!!! Well, just double checked on the setting again. 1. Configure My Documents Redirection is checked for Do not redirect My Documents folders 2. It is already blank on User Profile --> Profile path and Home folder --> Local path. However, I do found two gpos but don't know how to interpret them. One is call Folder Redirection Policy and other one is call Server Folder Redirection policy. Both enbled. I went though all the settings, see nothing seems to be configured, except under Folder Redirection policy -- > User Configureation --> Administrative Templates --> Network --> Offline Files --> Do not automatically make redirected folders available offline which is set to enable. Further Under Group Policy Management --> Forest : server.local --> Domains --> server.local --> My Business --> Computer --> laptops which has Server Folder Redirection link enabled and enforced --> SBS Computers which as Folder Redirection policy link_enabled --> Users --> SBS users --> Office users which has Server Folder Redirection enforced and link enabled. I have not touch any group policy at all and now suspect this is where the problem is. But I don't understand how GPO work, what shall I check or make note before I disable one to test ? At this moment of time, I would be tempt to disabled the Folder Redirection policy to see whether that will have any effect. While I was checking on the setting for the above two policy, I pay special attention to name such as share folder, profiles and offline, except the one which I mentioned above, I didn't found anything which was enabled regarding those varibles. Strange or my ignorance of SBS 2003!!! Regards, Smiley "Terence Liu [MSFT]" <v-> wrote in message news:... > Hello Smiley, > > Thank you for your kind update. > > 1. Hello Smiley,
Thank you for reply back. I find the suggestion in my previous reply in some know issue. Since your settings are correct, we have to do another troubleshooting steps. By default, on SBS server, we do not enable any folder redirection policy. However, the policies you find may related to this issue. Please try to disable the link of the folder redirection policy for test. a. Right click the folder redirection policy in right panel, uncheck the Link Enabled command, click OK in the prompt window b. Repeat the step a on the laptops, SBS Computers and SBS users. c. Please run the command gpupdate /force on SBS and all client. Then test this issue. If we can not resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please kindly help me collect some information for further investigation: Please capture screenshots on the folder redirection policy and send the pictures to me at v- Hope these steps will give you some help. Thanks and have a nice day! What is your view!!! | | Well, just double checked on the setting again. | 1. Configure My Documents Redirection is checked for Do not redirect My | Documents folders | 2. It is already blank on User Profile --> Profile path and Home folder --> | Local path. | | However, I do found two gpos but don't know how to interpret them. | One is call Folder Redirection Policy and other one is call Server Folder | Redirection policy. Both enbled. I went though all the settings, see nothing | seems to be configured, except under Folder Redirection policy -- > User | Configureation --> Administrative Templates --> Network --> Offline | Files --> Do not automatically make redirected folders available offline | which is set to enable. | | Further Under | Group Policy Management --> Forest : server.local --> Domains --> | server.local --> My Business | --> Computer | --> laptops which has Server Folder Redirection link enabled and | enforced | --> SBS Computers which as Folder Redirection policy link_enabled | --> Users | --> SBS users --> Office users which has Server Folder Redirection | enforced and link enabled. | | I have not touch any group policy at all and now suspect this is where the | problem is. But I don't understand how GPO work, what shall I check or make | note before I disable one to test ? At this moment of time, I would be tempt | to disabled the Folder Redirection policy to see whether that will have any | effect. | | While I was checking on the setting for the above two policy, I pay special | attention to name such as share folder, profiles and offline, except the one | which I mentioned above, I didn't found anything which was enabled regarding | those varibles. Hi Terence,
I have tried the following with no joy. 1. Disable the gpo, test, the shared folder came back on and checked on the Sync setup. 2. deleted the gpo, same result as 1 3. remove key in registry found under HKEY--> CURRENT USER --> SOFTWARE --> MISCROSOFT --> WINDOWS --> CURRENTVERSION --> NETCACHE --> SHARES, the key is //server/shared folder 4. repeat step 1, 2 and 3 and combination of step 1, 2 and 3, with re-initialise sync cache same result and the key come back on registry I will tried it on another machine again at end of week and let you know my result. Have a good day. "Terence Liu [MSFT]" <v-> wrote in message news:... > Hello Smiley, > > Thank you for reply back. > > I find the suggestion in my previous reply in some know issue. Hello Smiley,
Thank you for kind update. 1. Please extend to Server Management->Advanced Management->Group Policy Management->Forest->Domains->domain.local->Group Policy Objects, please delete any folder redirect object here. 2. Please run the command gpupdate /force on SBS and all client. Then test this issue. If the issue persists, please run command "rsop.msc" on client computer, this is a Group Policy result from SBS. Do you find any folder redirection policy here? If yes, find the GPO name, and then look for it at SBS Group Policy Objects, and modify it. Run gpupdate /force on client computer. Hope these steps will give you some help. Thanks and have a nice day!
