"Vickie",
My suggestion would be to perform the following steps in this exact order,
and do nothing else until it is complete:
If possible to uninstall from Add/Remove Programs:
1. Download Windows XP Service Pack 2 from this link, but SAVE the file to a
known directory: (please disregard the IT Professionals and Developers
portion of this, as it will run on an individual computer as well: (266 MB)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...5-9e368d3cdb5a
2. After download is complete, uninstall Service Pack 2 from the Add/Remove
programs group in the Control Panel.
3. Reboot when asked.
4. After reboot, immediately proceed to the directory from step 1, and
install Service Pack 2 by double-clicking on the file:
WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe
5. Follow the prompts, and install SP2. Be sure to BACKUP during the wizard
portion.
6. Write us back and let us know how this goes.
Sincerely,
Pat Walters [MSFT]
