Alex,
In general, your question regarding System Center Essentials 2007 should go
to the Essentials 2007 General Forum at
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/...1558&SiteID=17
To answer your question, No, Essentials 2007 is not a lite version of System
Center Operations manager (SCOM.)
Essentials 2007 uses the same basic engine as SCOM, but also contains some
of the features of WSUS 3.0. Unlike WSUS 3.0, you also get support for
pushing out and managing software updates for non-Microsoft products.
Essentials 2007 is for organizations having 500 clients or fewer, and 30
servers or fewer.
You would most likely want to integrate System Center Configuration manager
(SCCM) with SCOM if you have an organization with more than 500 clients and
more than 30 servers and you want the ability to manage non-Microsoft
products as well as take inventories of hardware and software. Integrating
only WSUS will only allow you to update Microsoft products.
Hope this helps answer your questions.
