my hard drive sounds like it is going into overdrive and the pc restarts.
this pc is only a few months old. run spyware/virus/privacy scans routinely
and no hits. any suggestions? also run diags with no hits...

Hi,

Have you run a hard drive diagnostic tool yet?

If that passes, then I'd guess that you have an overheating situation going
on.

don't have one, will try putting a external fan on and see what happens.
thanx for the idea. any recommendations for a good fix-it package.

Hi rick,

A hard drive diagnostic tool should be obtained from the drive manufacturer.
They typically provide these for free and are downloadable boot disk images.
You would boot the system from the disk it creates and run the tests (be
careful as some of them may erase data currently on the drive). It will tell
you the state of the drive and whether it is a candidate for replacement.

Hi,

Note that I am not referring to a chkdsk (error checking tool), I am talking
about a full drive diagnostic utility that is run from outside the hard
drive.

I had this exact same problem. It sounded like the fan in my PC case was
going to take off. Also, every time I started up my PC a different
configuration of start up programs ran/did not run. I could not figure out
what was causing the problem, and finally, in desperation tried Registry
Booster2. It found several hundred problems, one (or more) of which,
apparently was causing the issue. I am not a big believer in registry
cleaners, but this one did the trick for me. Here is a link:

Good luck,

Jerry
