I play a decent amount of games on my laptop(maplestory, driftcity, gunz,
gunbound, etc. mostly online games) anyway, whenever I play any of these
games they freeze within minutes.

PC: toshiba satellite A215
Graphics card: ATI Radeon X1200
2G ram
Processor: AMD turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56 1.8GHz

I just got the laptop 2 months ago so i dont think its due to out-of-date
hardware. This has to be a problem with Vista because my friends are having
the same problem. What do i do to stop this?
......my cousin told me vista isn't gamer friendly, i should listened haha.

Is it only the online games that freeze?
If so, it sounds like a firewall issue.

If the same also thing happens on non-online games then it's going to be
one of......

1) The graphics card is overheating. Try putting the games on the lowest
possible settings and see if that makes a difference. If so, gradually
build up the settings until you reach the 'sweet spot'.

2) Check if there are any updated graphic drivers for your laptop
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t..._sc_modSel.jsp

3) I don't know how graphically intensive those games are but the X1200
is a fairly basic graphics chip. Could it be it's just not up to the job?

I have the same model laptop, the Toshiba A215S4697. I'm also goin
through the same problem and I didn't want to start a new topi
regarding the same problem I'm experiencing as you are.

I also play MapleStory. I also own Vista Home Preminum 32-bit. I als
experience this delay in the game. I have tried a lot of things suc
as:

1. reinstall the game
2. reinstall DirectX 9.0 (required for the game)
3. set maplestory.exe as administer
4. set maplestory.exe to run compatitability to Windows XP (sp2)
5. set my graphic card (ATi Radeon x1200) scaling options to Preserv
Aspect Ratio

And there is no change in the performance. Maplestory is a 2D MMORP
that doesn't take a lot to run. The Minimum requirement to run thi
MMORPG that's listed on the site is:

OS Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
CPU P3-1Ghz
HDD 1.5Gb
VGA 3D acceleration card
Sound N/A
Network 56kbps/Modem

I was about to upgrade the graphic driver as you suggested but in tha
link there was no Graphic Driver update, instead BIOs. I was too scare
to mess with that. Im pretty sure there is something I can update o
change the settings to get this game running. Im able to run World o
Warcraft easily and also Steam Games with such a basic graphic card. An
help, suggestions, or opinions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks i
advance

http://ati.amd.com you should be able to get a driver for the Radeon x1200
there, I think 7.10 or .11 is the current catalyst driver.

The minimum requirements do not list Windows Vista. That's the companies way
of telling you one of two things. Either, Were working on a patch, but for
now you're on your own to get our game running in Vista, or B, there's not
enough demand for this game to justify a patch, you're on your own.

Either way, you're on your own. Knowing that Maple Story is so huge, chances
are someone can do a patch for the game, you should probably get on their
support horn and get them to cough up a solution to your problem.

Good luck,
A.
