I generally run windows updates every month or so, and the last time i ran
was in march. From last one week. i am trying to run windows updates, and
when using either of the options (custom or express), machine crashes in the
middle of scan. There are no errors thrown, no blue screens, no error code,
not even an entry in the event viewer. Its plain crash!!!

I have tried to search internet but none of the solutions have fixed it.
Some of the steps that i have tried till now are -
- Re-registered Windows Update components and Cleared the corrupted Windows
Update temp folder i.e. rename C:\windows\SoftwareDistribution..
- Used the AVG Antirootkit Beta to find rootkit infection - Nothing found.

Any help???

Have you opted into Microsoft update and have Office installed?
Please see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932494 for some known issues with
Microsoft update.

Thanks Sudhir.

I was able to resolve the issue, by going through the steps mentioned in one
of the earlier post re: SVCHOST utilizing 100% CPU. Didn't notice before
posting that this was the case and constant 100% CPU utlization for 8-10 min
caused laptop to crash.

Regards,
Amit
