System Event Notification Failure

For some unknown reason, Vista's "System Event Notification" service just
started failing. With that, no web traffic will work, and the computer
becomes useless. I ran the "sfc /scannow" utility, and that did not fix it.
I tried running a system restore, but it does not work (likely due to the
same problem). It does not appear related to the user (I am trying with
multiple administrator logins). I have tried disabling Windows Defender and
all the other tricks that have been listed with the, seemingly, thousands of
people running into this problem. The computer just started doing this with
nothing that we could see that started it. We can not do a system restore
because this problem is blocking that.

Does anyone have a fix for this? I can find dozens of conversations about
this, but no solution.

Thank you!

jp

Hope I'm not too late to join this thread...

You can add my name to the list of people having trouble with SENS.
When I log on to my admin accounts I get the message "Windows could not
connect to the System Event Notification Service". This problem prevents
limited users from logging onto the system. As an administrative user,
you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service
didn't respond". I am blocked from doing scads of functions (internet,
system restore, etc.). When I log on as a user account, I simply get the
message that I can't log on period. then it return me to the login page.

I'm not very computer adept but this problem has put me on a very steep
learning curve. Any help would be very appreciated.

This happened to my machine just after an automatic Windows update
Restore point process didn't work, logging off just gave me fits
service systems were frustrating. I did a System Repair from start u
and it repaired itself including a System restore during the process
I'm not completely sure how, but it worked
