System EXTREMELY slow after XP-SP2 Update

After I install the SP2 update, my sytem becomes extremely slow, with CPU
usage on the Task Manager registering 100% when I do something as simple as
move the mouse around. This problem is reversible with a system restore.

My notebook is a Dell Inspiron with a celeron processor.

Celeron.. ewh.. But - what speed Celeron?
How much memory?
How much free hard drive space?
Cleaned your PC of pests lately?
Uninstalled unused applications?
Ran a CHKDSK?
Defragmented?
