System Password (Windows 98)

Since installing some new software, I am now asked to enter a password before
the system boots up. I have it set to default, so I only have to hit enter to
continue, but some time ago I did something to bypass the whole thing. Can't
remember what I did. Would someone have some info on what to do, to get rid
of that password request totally. Many thanks

Hardly a Windows Update question and would have been better in
microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion but all I did was give it a
valid name and hit Enter and I have never seen the prompt again.
