System Reboots over and over after 6/9/2009 Updates

After installing the Windows Update security patches (6/9/2009) on my Vista
Business (32 bit) system, I am stuck in an endless loop. Here is the sequence:
1. Normal BIOS POST
2. Windows starts to boot and then shows the "Configuring Updates 3 of 3"
screen
3. The progress % is always "0% complete"
4. After a minute or so, the systems goes back to the BIOS POST and the
sequence repeats over and over

The Updates (10 of them) appeared to install correctly when first installed.
I then did a reboot per the requirement of the updates. The Configuring
updates stepped through from 1 to 2 to 3 and then the reboot sequence
started. I did a PF8 to the recovery menu and tried all the options possible
with no success.

ANy thoughts on how to break the loop and get Windows to load?
