I am mainly using Office 2003, but have Office 2000 installed as I am an
Access developer and sometimes need to check compatibility for my clients.

My copy of Access 2000 shows SP-3 as being installed. Do not want to
overwrite that by installing SR-1

The Windows Installer messages pop ups in various contexts, but is most
annoying while I am reading e-mial in Outlook 2003 SP2.

What can I do to make it stop sending the message?

MamaGrubb,

Try the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility :
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=290301

Thanks for this info -- looks like it should solve my problem. But, I am
concerned about my ability to return to my current configuration should it
mess things up. Will setting a system restore point be adequate, or would I
need to do a full backup of my system?

System Restore *should* contain the Windows Installer Config info.
BUT, a full backup of the system *when* it's running properly is
*always* a good thing
