I have windows xp and did a restore on 1/06/06 and restored back to 11/10/05.
I see all my updates in add/remove programs up until 11/10/05 and then
nothing until 1/07/06. How can I be sure I still have the missing November
and December updates? I've read other posts where you can run "wuauclt.exe
/detectnow" but that program does not run. I tried it and then checked my
task manager and it's not running. I read about the Microsoft Baseline
Security Analyzer but is that something I want to install for only one home
computer. Iv'e read it and it looks geared to small companies with multi
systems. Any help is greatly appreciated.

When you do a system restore you go back to a date/time before the
installation of all patches/fixes/updates you installed after that date.
That's why it's called restore. You will have to go to the WindowsUpdate
page and reinstall all of the ones you are now missing; or install them
again if you downloaded them.

You would have to check with the Processes tab, not the Applications tab.

However, even then you might have to be quick.
Look for post facto clues in the windowsupdate.log

MBSA is another way to check whether you have all the recommended
updates applied. It's particularly useful for stand-alone use when you
suspect that WU or AU are behaving inconsistently with regards to some
updates.
