System Restore does not work

When I try to run System Restore I get this error message:

There was an unexpected error.

The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
(0x8007007B)

System Restore will now close.

Hit F8, and try it in safe mode.

Also, disable your anti-virus before attempting to do a System Restore.

Thanks for your reply.

It also doesn't work in Safe Mode or with anti-virus disabled.

Where does Vista store data for System Restore? I can't use System
Restore to either create a new restore point or revert to a previous one.

Would doing a repair install of Windows help?
