Have you installed any new software?
I'm having a hard time really finding anything
solid about the error. Most of what I've seen
usually relates to some other program causing
the problem. An uninstall of that program fixed
the issue.

This error has many references to other problems,
not so many referring to System Restore.

What are you trying to restore when this error pops up.
Make it brain dead simple - every step. You Click this
then this and so on....

Very often wording for error message is missleading which was the case
with my problem. Please refer to my post one thread above.

no new software has been installed at all, the reason i need to restore is i
was messing around with permissions on my comp with 3 users, trying to make
our files sharable, and now we are all standard users, and if i try to change
back to admin when i go back to settings it is standard user again. now i
cant modify anything...for ex: cant uninstall or install programs like
iTunes, etc. i even tried deleting all accounts except one and when it says
keep files i say no, its says press ok to delete, i press delete and it just
goes back to the user screen and the account (which im not logged on to) is
still there...all my permissions and stuff are screwed, thats why i want to
restore...UGH!!

Dale,

It will probably be best to reinstall Vista, or just put the Vista
disk in while at your desktop and do an in-place-upgrade.

What worked for me to fix this problem was to reboot, press F8, and
chose the option to use Last Known Good Configuration. Problem was
fixed.
