System Restore From External Hardrive

So cutting to the chase.

I did a system "complete pc back up" throught the "Back up status and
configuration" program that comes with vista. This saved the items to my
external hard drive but using the restore feature I can not do a system
restore from these files.

I can find the external harddrive, it just can not access the files on
the drive.

Any help would be great as I would like all of my data back.

Any ideas? I've looked around everywhere with no solid solution.

Did you try rebooting and selecting restore from the boot menu?
If you did and that didn't work, try safe mode.

I have a RAID-0 Stripe setup so the only way to back-up files is by
putting them onto an external hard drive but now I have a back up
sitting there that I can do nothing with.

Sorry.

Wait - I have one more.
Did you connect the drive before rebooting?
I've had problems restoring from a USB drive when I didn't have it plugged
in before reboot.
I've also had problems restoring from standard mode. That's why I suggested
save mode (hit F8 while booting).
Other than that. I'm tapped out of ideas.

Good luck
DD

You are doing the restore incorrectly.
This is the restore utility for the "file backup", not the restore for
"Windows complete pc Restore" (image). the complete PC image can only be
restored outside of Windows, not from within it.
(further note- If you were to ever create the image on DVD's you must
insert the -last- disk of the image for Windows to recognize the backup,
then insert the first image disk when prompted to do so)

You cannot restore the image using the file rstore utility. To restore
the Image you must boot into the Vista Disk RE (recovery enviroment),
and select "*Windows complete pc Restore*"

Here are the steps (if you do not have the means to boot into RE, you
can create a recovery disk-see tutorial below)
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/14...very-disc.html

Place dvd in drive, restart, hit any key to boot off disk at prompt.
