I am trying to restore but it will not work. I have tried every point since
last week and none of them will work. How do i find out what the problem
is?? My wmp has lost sound since dl a corrupt file. I have sound when
playing music but thats about it. I also dont get sound when messages arrive
in my inbox and all that kind of stuff. Hope this makes sense. I have also
done a registry clean. (I dont understand them so I just say repair all)
still not fixed! I also checked that thing you type in msinfo32 and i
noticed it said there is no sound file.

Here is hoping for an answer today!

Cheers

Thought I would add this in just in case you have an answer to my sound
problems as well.
DirectX Files Tab: No problems found.
Display Tab 1: No problems found.
Sound Tab 1: DirectSound test results: Failure at step 3
(DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x8878000a (The request failed because
DirectSound resources, such as the priority level, were already in use by
another caller.)
Sound Tab 2: DirectSound test results: Failure at step 3
(DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x8878000a (The request failed because
DirectSound resources, such as the priority level, were already in use by
another caller.)
Music Tab: DirectMusic test results: Failure at step 6 (Activating
the IDirectMusicPort): HRESULT = 0x8878000a (The request failed because
DirectSound resources, such as the priority level, were already in use by
another caller.)
Input Tab: No problems found.
Network Tab: No problems found. DirectPlay test results: The tests
were cancelled before completing.

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP1) when
posting to this newsgroup.

How is this related to Windows Update?
