System Restore Points ? ?

The problem is: When I make a change to my system i.e. new driver, etc I
would like to create a system restore point just in case of a malfunction.
When I try to create a restore point I get this message on my Systems
Property Window under the tab system protection Automatic Restore Point
"Configuration is disabled by group policy" and "Restore Point creation
disabled by group policy." What kind of system protection is that? Is it
protecting my system from my protection? Yes I think so. Is there anyway
to change the group policy on windows Vista Premium since it is unavailable
in the premium version? Wow. This PC belongs to ME not Microsoft.

I deleted the value DisableConfig and restarted. Now I get the error
Access Denied 0x80070005 but the create key is NOT grayed out. Thanks for

Hi Merle,

What's the status of UAC in your system? If you've disabled UAC earlier, see if enabling it helps.

No, I haven't disabled UAC. Unlike most people a click here or there
doesn't wear me out that much. Thanks for the reply

I tried this with the same results, Nothing.

When trying to create a manual restore point the following error message may
be displayed - Access is Denied - 0x80070005

This can be do to the System Volume Information Folder attributes being set
to Read-only.



The System Volume Information Folder is where Vista holds restore points or
shadow copies.



For Windows Vista using the NTFS File System.

Click Start then My Computer.
On the Tools menu Then Folder Options.
On the View tab, click "Show hidden files and folders".
Clear the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) check box.
Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the change.
Click OK.
Right-click the System Volume Information folder in the root folder, and
then click Properties.
If the Read-only attibutes is checked, uncheck it and click, OK
Now try creating a restore point.
Warning: Remember to hide the hidden System Files when done.
