Upgrading to (WinXP?) SP3 with the machine in such a state was NOT a wise
idea, especially with Norton 360 installed!... Well, that's a lot of help. I was having these problems before I downloaded
SP3. I have had a Norton product on my machine since 1991 when I got my first computer. Are you employed by Microsoft to help people fix problem with Microsoft products? I have a problem. Suggestion 1 - Norton's have released a fixed for their product to go with
SP3. Update your product. Suggestion 2 - Your issues do not appear to relate to Windows Update therefore it may be more appropriate to post to a more appropriate newsgroup. Suggestion 3 - If you're not happy with the volunteers who try to assist on the newsgroups, then the alternative is paid support. First I didn't know this was completely volunteer. I thought it was monitored by Microsoft personnel. From the MS MVP I assumed you were affliated with Microsoft. I'm certainly not a computer wiz as many on this help site must be but will try to follow the procedures you have recommended. As part of this I spent yesterday trying to fix the problem. I have fixed it although it is only a temporary fix. That is if I disable Norton and reset the internet options (in the advanced tab). Start ancestry.com, I can download the ancestry.com enhanced image viewer then reinstate Norton as my protect and phlishing protection and it will work until I turn off my machine. Then I have to go through the same thing. Really not accepatable since this was not a problem before April or May 08. Dare I say I think Microsoft may working or really maybe not working so as to leveage some pressure on Norton and others. Thanks for suggestions.
Let me say I did not know this was completely volunteer. I assume Microsoft monitored and somewhat directed the help for thier software. Please note my responds to PA Bear as I have found a work around but it's not really a long term fix. Well, I have to admit that since 2005 I have had more problems with the
Norton stuff. Yes, it is the ccsvchst file that seems to have problems on shutdown. I though it was some kinda' internet related file but no I didn't know it was a Norton file. Yes, I upgraded on May 22, 08 to Norton 360. I was having problem before that as I had to reinstall my Norton 2007 back in April. This may have been when the image problem began but Ancestry.com was also having serious problems at that time as well. I think I uninstall it properly but as you know after you click the button it's on automatic. Yes, I have my product key. Well, I have my work cut out for my limited abilities but with your instruction I will give a shot. Thanks for you help and sorry for my attitude of my first message. Frustration is my only excuse. I should think that uninstalling N306, running the Removal Tool, and then
reinstalling N360 (if you want to keep using it) should resolve the issues, BB.
