How to take a screen shot

How do I take a screen shot of the window I have open, so I can email the
picture to someone for help? I'm on Vista home premium 32 bit

With windows Vista you dont need editing software to take a screen shot of
your desktop.

Use the Snipping Tool to capture a screen shot, or snip, of any object on
your screen and then annotate, save, or share the image.

To capture a screen shot...

Got to Start menu, Programs, Accessories and click on Snipping Tool.
click new and follow the directions for a full screen capture.

You can upload the image to Imageshack ot Photobucket for free if you need
it hosted.

You can also hit the "print screen" button then open "Paint"

and then hit "ctrl + V"

then save it, then upload it

Depress and hold down the [CTRL] key followed by depressing the [PrtSc] key.
Then go into word or some other editor of your choice and either depress and
hold down [CTRL] followed by the letter V or select PASTE from your menu.

No, to get the entire screen you only have to press PrtSc on its own. To
only capture the active window you use Alt + PrtSc.

Make sure it is the active window, then hold down alt and tap the
printscreen/system request (PrtScn/SysRq) key. Open your new email and
click from the menu edit|paste. You should see your screenshot in the
email.

Drob

Click the Print Screen key to capture the entire screen or ALT+Print Screen
to capture just the active window.

Open Paint and select Edit / Paste to paste the screen capture into Paint.
You can crop the picture or do other editing there.

When you are finished, click File/Save As and save the file as a .jpg with a
descriptive name to the Desktop or a folder.

Go to where you saved the file and right click the picture. Select Send To /
Mail Recipient. A dialog box will pop up where you can select a size for the
picture, select the size and click OK. A new email window for your email
program will pop up with the picture attached.

No matter how you get the screen shot, you may want to take measures to
minimise the file size, like if you or the other party uses dialup for
internet connection or your web traffic is metered. Where possible, use
..PNG format for screen shots because it is a non-lossy compression method
that is very efficient for typical windows with a small mix of colors. If
the screen shot includes pictures with lots of different shades of color,
then .JPG, while lossy, is probably a better format.

I just used the snipping tool. It was so easy to use and I saved it in
Pictures, It gave me the option to get a full screen snip, window snip,
rectangular snip and free form snip.
Thanks for all the help everyone, I didn't know anything about screen shots
and now I know a few different ways. Thanks! :-)
