Hello

I just installed Vista, and I need to take a screenshot of when an UAC
window pop ups, but..
- the usual PrintScreen or Alt+PrintScreen is disabled
- using Vista's Snipping Tool doesn't work either (Its window, and
hence the mouse, is no longer accessible when an UAC window is
displayed).

Is there a solution?

Thank you.

I have a short cut to the snipping tool on the taskbar - 2nd from left
When I hit Windows key and the ''2'' key the snipping tool opens.
I don't have UAC on - so no guaranty ;-)

When I get a new keyboard, the Windows keys go the same way as the
Caps Lock key: In the trash can :-D

So MS disabled the PrintScreen key when the UAC is shown?

Thanks.

I don't know, I have had UAC off since forever ;-)
How'd you ''trash" the keys?

You can't, the only way I have been able to take a screenshot of UAC is with
Vista installed in Virtual PC. Even then it was a problem.

If you configure UAC to not switch to the secure desktop, you'll be able to
take a screenshot of the UAC prompt.

Run Secpol.msc as administrator, expand Local Policies, Security Options,
policy "User Account Control: Switch to the secure desktop when prompting
for elevation", set to "Disabled".

I'd recommend you revert the changes after you've taken the screenshots.

The following, which works to capture pop up menus such as the
right-click menu, might be worth a try if you can predict when the UAC
window will pop up:
Open the Snipping Tool and minimize it; this keeps it working. When the
UAC window appears press Ctrl+Print Screen.

You could also use a digital camera.

LOL, next thing you know, you'll be waving a cd/dvd/floppy in front of the
monitor and wondering why the machine can't 'find' it!
