My computer was recently infected with some form of spam virus. To attempt to
get rid of this spam virus, I went to the processes tab of task manager. I
found the two processes that are causing the pop ups and I tried to stop
them. When I clicked on 'end process', the processes did not stop and
continue to spew out spam. I'm using Vista and I am the administrator on the
computer.

Below is how to get rid of Spyware>Viruses to fix your computer.
Read carefully.

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Avast Anti-Virus is Vista compatible (32bit and 64bit Versions), FREE,
auto-updating, and a low resources user of your computer.
And, only have 1(one) Anti-Virus installed / running on your computer at any
one time..
Conflicts may occur if you have more than 1(one).

http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html

Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6 is a very good, FREE Anti-Spyware Program.
Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it.
Then SCAN with it.
Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight.

Important re: Safe Mode
If you happen to find a problem that you can’t uninstall / delete, reboot
the computer, and go into Safe Mode.
To get into Safe mode, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP arrow
key to get to Safe Mode from list of options, then hit ENTER.
RESCAN your computer with Avast and Spybot S & D while in Safe Mode.

You can use Process Explorer to stop the process. But be aware that the
process that you see may be only the host for the hidden process that's
doing it.

<http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default.aspx>

You can use Menu/View/Show Lower pane and show all DLL(s), which will
show you everything that's being hosted by a process in the upper pane.

You can right-click a line in the upper and lower pane and go to
Properties to get more information like location, etc, ect.

There is no commonly-used term "spam virus." Please describe exactly
what your symptoms are.

What are their names? How did you know which they were?

Getting rid of a virus is almost always far more difficult than simply
stopping a process or two. I would never expect that to work.

Well, this thing that infected my computer causes windows to pop up that say
I am infected with a virus and will thus tell me to download an antivirus
software. I do not have the virus that it is saying I have and I know that
the antivirus software it is telling me to download has the virus in it.

The two processes that I believe are causing this are wcm.exe and wcs.exe
which are in the Web Technologies folder in my program files.

As for the software Mick told me to download, I did that and scanned the
above mentioned folder and files. The software said that they were neither
infected nor a virus. Also, when I downloaded the software, my internet
stopped working. I removed the software and now my internet works fine.
