Task scheduler service is not available, (Vista Home Premium, SP2)
Message shows up a.o. when trying to run a backup.

In Services> Task scheduler>Properties first three tabs are fully grey,
i.e. no options can be selected. It is shown as switched off, and this
can not be changed.

Windows Event log, Remote procedure call and DCOM Service process
launcher are all on automatic and running.

In the event viewer I can not find anything that helps, although many
things in there are abacadabra to me...

Running Windows Vista disk in a repair mode does not change all this.

I have tried running sfc /scannow, no results. (ref KB 929833)
sfcdetails.txt remains empty.

System restore does not work either, reports error 0x80070032

I am running out of ideas.

Anybody a suggestion?
