bought new comp.. windows xp home and I am an english user

all my webpages and documents in japanese are nothing but boxes and o's and
wierd symbols... with old comp windows 98 i simply went to microsoft updates
and clicked on what language text support i wanted for comp.. no such option
for xp

**install on demand** - webpages that ask me to download support so i can
read them.. click ok then i'm prompted to put in " windows xp home edition
service pack 1 cd " into comp

**settings > controll pannel > regional/language > languages tab > east
asian languages box .... starts to install this file **
D:\i386\lang\cplexe.exe ** then stops and tells me to put in "service pack 1
cd " into comp

the " Instal files for complex script " box prompts me to put in the "
windows xp home edition CD-Rom"

my computer came with no microsoft disks.. how am I supposed to get text
support ? this computer is worthless without it.... i'm back to using my old
junky computer with 98 se and got a brand new computer collecting dust that's
unusable

XP Pro has support for multiple languages, I don't know if
Home has this level of support. Here is the page from the
Pro Help file.

To install East Asian language files on your computer

1.. Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panel.
2.. On the Languages tab, under Supplemental language
support, select the Install files for East Asian languages
check box.
3.. Click OK or Apply.
You will prompted to insert the Windows CD-ROM or point to
a network location where the files are located.

4.. After the files are installed, you must restart your
computer.
Notes

a.. To open Regional and Language Options, click Start,
click Control Panel, and then double-click Regional and
Language Options.
b.. You must be logged on as an administrator or a member
of the Administrators group in order to complete this
procedure. If your computer is connected to a network,
network policy settings might also prevent you from
completing this procedure.
c.. The East Asian languages include Chinese, Japanese,
and Korean. The files for most other languages are installed
on your computer automatically by Windows.
d.. It is recommended that you install these files only if
you are going to be entering or receiving text in one or
more of these languages. The Chinese, Japanese, and Korean
files require about 230 megabytes (MB) of space on your hard
disk. In addition to the language files, Input Method
Editors (IMEs) are installed for each of the three
languages.
e.. After you install the East Asian language files on
your computer's hard disk, you must add the individual
languages for which you want to enter and display text.
After you add a language, the language is loaded into memory
every time you start your computer. For more information,
click Related Topics.
f.. To remove the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean files from
your computer, clear the check box, and then click OK or
Apply.

You should contact the computer manufacturer for a proper XP
CD.

Called Northgate about the CD's and they said none comes with my computer
then directed me to microsoft download center and said to download

Windows XP Language Interface Pack

but this lists support for minority lang's like Catalan, Lithuanian, and
Thai.. I need Japanese, Korean, both Chinese at the very least

there are some supports in the center for these but they are for xp office
... will these work with home edition ?

got a link for what I need to download ? Northgate has no windows cd's to
send me

********
