I am an investor and have to transfer a very large data base with share
prices and that's the problem in Vista

The transfer of data is very slow and often incomplete/damaged

I use Total Commander for file transfer and that's better and doesn't damage
the files but still

Looks like your post got cut off. Are these file transfers occurring over a
network or locally?
