Thank You Page?...might Be A Lemon...

Every time I try to use windows update or microsoft update it instantly
redirects me to this thank you page.
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...&thankspage=2&. The message in the page reads as follows,

Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site.
This website is designed to work with Microsoft Windows operating systems
only.
To find updates for Microsoft products that are designed for Macintosh
operating systems, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/mac/.

My OS is MICROSOFT WINDOS ME! Its not MACINTOSH! My PC might be a Lemon, but
it is DEFINITELY no APPLE! I'm sure the problem is an incorrect key in the
registry, Just can't seem to figure it out.
Please Help!
I'm about to throw it in the street and Pulverize it with my truck!

When attempting to access the Windows Update Web site you receive the
following message: Thank You -- you must be running a Microsoft windows
operating system in order to use windows update

I don't think that it is supposed to be fully formatted like that in the registry.
Where did you see this? Why aren't you showing us what subkeys and values
you have under the above key (such as "Post Platform", as documented
in the KB article)?


Also please post the results of entering the following script fragment
in your Address bar:

Is this *all* that the tool returned?

If so, it appears that something in your connection path is stripping out
the User-Agent header and that would be what is causing your symptoms.
If you are using a software firewall program perhaps you should try
checking in its configuration for such an option and undo that;
otherwise you could try disabling the firewall temporarily.

Note for NTx lurkers: do not connect to the Internet without some kind
of port blocking in place, especially if your OS is unpatched.


Hmm... I see now that you claim you do not have a firewall.
Another possibility then would be that you have malware which has
taken over your TCP/IP stack and filtering requests that way.
