I am running a Dell box with Win XP 64 5.2.3790 Service Pack 2 Build 3790
and IE 7.0.5730.13.
When trying to run Microsoft update or Windows update i get:
"Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site.
This website is designed to work with Microsoft Windows operating systems
only.
To find updates for Microsoft products that are designed for Macintosh
operating systems, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/mac/. "

I have removed the registry entries "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \
Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Internet Settings \ 5.0 \ User Agent"
and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \
Internet Settings \ 5.0 \ User Agent"
javascript:navigator.userAgent reports "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0;
Windows NT 5.2; WOW64; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR
3.5.30729; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; OfficeLiveConnector.1.3; OfficeLivePatch.0.0)"

Any Ideas?

I figured it out: Network Threat Protection Setting in Symantec Endpoint
Protection
software. "Enable stealth mode Web browsing" under "Stealth Settings". Turn
it off.
