Yes if you have Vista Ultimate or Business there is the Fax and scan applet.
If you do not have Vista Ultimate or Business then you will either have to
upgrade or use a third party product.
see

Only Vista Business and Vista Ultimate have that capability. So, either
you have to update to those versions (and pay for the update), use a
third party program or go back to XP.

Does anyone know the rationale behind the reason why fax function is
excluded from the *Home* editions? Thanks

We don't use fax at home or what?!

Yes - Fax is not considered a Home User usage scenario.
FAX is predominantly a communication method associated with business users
hence the inclusion in Business (and Enterprise Edition) and obviously as
Ultimate rolls up all versions functionality it is included there. In
general it is considered that home user would not have a fax machine (I do
understand that a lot of Multi Function devices today have scan print fax
built-in)
So since the product SKUs are targeted at the general usage scenarios you do
not get Fax in Home editions. There will always be exceptions to the
general population and these have the option of buying or upgrading to
Business or Ultimate.

It's simple. MS wants you to pull out the money and "upgrade". The
mistake you're making in your assumption is that MS cares about their
paying customers. They don't.

Course, had they only sold Ultimate at a reasonable price, all this
nonsense, explanations and unfounded assumptions wouldn't be necessary
on your part.

It is probably just a marketing issue. They created a Business version that
they can charge extra and it includes fax. Ultimate includes everything so
the key is that MS couldn't charge extra for business if they included fax
in HOME.

Not having fax in HOME is not a big deal. You can download free Call Center
fax http://www.v3fax.com/freecc.htm or pay $30 for Snappy Fax
http://www.snappysoftware.com/. Try the free stuff first.
