Hello,

I want to deploy InterExplorer 8 with WSUS. Is there any way to instal IE8
MUI with WSUS in Windows XP?
If not, does anybody know the reason why the its not in WSUS?

Thanks in advanced,
Peter

Not the MUI version.

I'd venture a guess that it's because it requires user interaction during
installation, and thus is not suitable for deployment as an unattended
installation.

Thank you Lawrence for your answer,

Is it a guess or are you sure?
It will leave us no other choice than to distribute IE8 and the MUI with an
Distribution tool?
Strange enough the MUI for Englisch, Russion and Spanish is deployed with
WSUS? Isn't there any user action?

Regards Peter

I think i'm wrong about the Mui for Eng, Rus an Spanish. It is Internet
Explorer for Win XP With Language Interface Pack. I think the LIP is not a
MUI but a full version OF IE8 with 3 Languages? Is that correct?

It's an educated guess. The reason both IE7 and IE8 had significant lags for
release to WSUS after the release to MU was to faciliate repacking the
update as a no-user-interaction required package.

The MUI package, has a much smaller dissemination than the language-specific
packages, so my educated guess is that they did not invest the effort in
repackaging that product as the investment would not be justified by the
limited uptake on the package.

Yes... that's likely the case.

Eh? . . . To the best of my understanding, there's only *one* MUI and it
sits on top of the English-language version.

From your subsequent post:

Generally the language add-ons are designed to sit on top of the
English-language product; as opposed to the language-specific product, which
functions only in the specific localized language and provides no English
capability at all.

From my review of the MU catalog, just now, however, it appears that the
=MUI= package only exists for IE7. IE8 is implemented with individual
"Language Packs", which as noted, typically are installed on top of an
existing English-language implementation to create multiple language
interfaces -- just as the OS Language Packs install on the core
English-language Win7, to provide multi-language interfaces. The difference
being that the MUI contains all available languages, whereas the LIP
provides just the additional language(s) needed.

As for your reference to the "English, Russian, and Spanish" product.. I
don't see that in my WSUS server or in the MU catalog, so I'm unable to
comment on that particular point.
