If you've read other posts I've made you know I'm no fan of Vista,
still being fair the search ability works, be it clumsy and painfully
slow. As you already stated you know how to get to advanced search and
include non index folders and you've enabled the look inside file
option. The problem might simply be not waiting long enough.
I tested Vista search abilities when I first installed it and at
random picked a few words and phrases I knew for sure appeared in some
of my documents by scatted all over the 15 GB or more storage I have.
Vista found them all, but it took forever, meaning almost 40 minutes.
At first I was fooled into thinking Vista had completed it's searching
by watching the status bar go from full left to right. Well, in Vista
that indicator is totally useless and a serious bug that needs to be
addressed since the status bar can make dozens, even HUNDEREDS of
passes from full left to right during the course of a extended search
before it finally stops. Only then will it generate a FULL list of
what you asked it to search for.
