I have purcashed a new Toshiba laptop that is running Vista home edition and
I have been trying to transfer files from my Dell dsktop running XP
professional.
Irrespective if I use my LAN or an Belkin Easy Transfer USB cable, I seem to
be able to transfer about 2 gig of data OK, then the process stops.
Alas I am not terribly computer literate and cannot figure out how to
proceed to copy my old files over to my new computer

Vista has known problems with data transfer.
It doesn't usually just stop, but can be painfully slow.
If possible, I'd burn them to a CD/DVD to transfer them, that way you have a
hard copy also.

I agree with Not Me, there are problems, are you dragging and dropping a
folder at a time?

The only thing I can suggest is that you try to go into the folders and
keep the number of files down each time, and then check the resulting
folder to see they are all there intact.

When it stops it does not seem to have any logical order, so if you were
dragging a whole folder you will not know at which point it stopped
until you try again, so the easiest method is to enter the folder,
select all and drag them across as files.

You could try google and search for Vista file manager

I suggest you should try Microsoft File Transfer manager.

The first thing I do when installing a Vista or purchasing a new machine is
to install this API.

I'm actually quite alarmed at your answer here. I think you actually have
got some sort of mental problem.

You claim to always install this 'API', but why? If it is so important to
you, you should at least know what it is for. But it does not seem like you
have ever used it, as you are so far off the ball.

And I noticed that you like the term API quite a lot, but do you know what
that means, and do you think everything is an API?

I haven't seen the Synaptic Syndrome who is "alarmed with my answers around
here" to offer any helping hand. All you, crook, do is going around trying
to discredit other people who want to help Opts.

The OP has a problem downloading files to his computer. I offered him a
Microsoft Download manager which I personally have used many times to
download files OVER 2 GABS.

Can you, IDIOT, Synaptic or NOT, understand a simple thing: do not stick you
idiotic neck out if you do not understand what you are talking about.

Did you practice to become this dim? Surely, nature can't take
all the blame.

AlexB must be a mental retard. Just FYI. I think he is on parole and
sitting in his mommie's basement playing on the computer.

Just FYI
