Is there an updated OS available for the HP iPAQ Pocket PC?

This Vista computer is not living up to its hype. First of all, I find that
my PC camera won't work with it, now I am finding that my pocket PC (an HP
1945) may not work either.

I started by talking to HP and found that my iPAQ wasn't currently
compatible with Vista either but that Microsoft was coming out with an
upgrade to the OS 'soon'. Well, they must be keeping it a secret because I
haven't found ANYTHING about an upgrade on the webpage.

What I'd like to know is does anyone know how to get an HP iPAQ to sync with
a Vista computer? Has anyone heard of an upgrade that might be coming out to
the Mobile OS that would allow an HP 1945 to talk to it?

Thanks,

Hello,

You need Windows Mobile Device Center on your Windows Vista computer in order to sync your pocket pc
with it. This is a free download from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...icecenter.mspx

Windows Mobile Device Center supports all mobile devices running Windows Mobile 2003 and above.

Um, yes, I did that already. But HP says that I need an OS upgrade for the
PDA in order to get it to talk to the Mobile Device Center first, and they
said Microsoft would have it.

I have checked and while HP has an upgrade for a later model, they don't
have one for the 1945. And they said Microsoft would have it. I was asking
here because there didn't seem to be anything on the microsoft site about it.
Do you have any information on an OS upgrade for the HP iPAQ 1945?

Ariel;
An "OS upgrade"?
Ask HP to be more specific.
There are patches for various issues regularly released.
If HP knows of something specific, they should be able to tell you
what to look for.

However what Anando suggested is probably all that Microsoft can do.
If your model is not compatible with Windows Vista, it is up to HP to
furnish Windows Vista compatible drivers if they feel they need to
support their customers.
It is possible that HP has abandoned the customers of the older
models.

WMDC will synchronise Outlook versions 2002 to 2007 with your device. A copy
of Outlook 2002 would have been in the box with your 1945.

For now at least, WMDC will not synchronise any device with the Vista
Calendar, Contacts or Mail applications. This may change and be what HP were
referring to.

No, Microsoft does not provide OS updates for mobile devices. That is the
responsibility of the device manufacturer. Each copy of Windows Mobile is
customized and compiled specifically for the hand-held model it runs on.

I was of the impression that the earliest version that would work with WMDC
was 2003? I do have the Outlook 2002 on my disk and would be willing to try
it - what have I got to loose?

When I was looking around on the internet, I found someone on a bulletin
board that said he was able to get a 1945 to sync with Vista so I am somewhat
reassured, but now, I just have to know 'how'.

When I looked on the HP site, it seemed they had 'updates' for some of the
other models but not the 1900 series - are you aware of an update for the
1900 series?

According to everything I have been able to find, HP does support this model
and even Microsoft has indicated that anything with Pocket Pro 2003, like
this one, and later IS Vista compatible.

Now the issue is, to find the darned patch!

I will check with HP again. Thank you for your time.

According to everything I've been able to find, this unit can run on Vista -
I just have to know how to get it to do so. Thank you for your reply.

If you connect your 1945 to Vista it should load the necessary drivers and
offer to install WMDC. You may need to play with the synchronisation
settings to get a first connection. After the first synchronisation you
should have no problems.

If you need a manual download of WMDC see
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...icecenter.mspx

There are no OS updates for the 1945. For other updates for the h1945 see
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...&lang=en&cc=us
