I use Windows XP Service Pack 2 and IE 7.
My computer says it has downloaded the Updates but it can't install them, so
I would like to know where these downloads are stored so that I can delete
them and try again.

Can anyone help me?

Regards

Alan

Any errors associated with the failed installs? What makes you think that
deleting the downloads will help to resolve the issues?

===================================

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Stop
(Stopping the service will take a moment)

2. Delete the contents of the Download folder:

Start > Run > (type in) %windir%\SoftwareDistribution > [OK]
Open the Download folder and delete its contents
Close the window.

3. Start the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Start
(Starting the service will take a moment)

Just fix the updater...

Ignore the title of the knowledge base article, perform methods 1 & 2 with
reboots after each one and visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ after
the second reboot to do a custom scan. If asked to install anything before
doing the customer scan - agree. After the custom scan completes and lists
the updates you need - you can install whichever updates you wish. I highly
recommend getting the critical ones, possibly even the optional software
updates - but I also recommend *not* getting the optional hardware updates.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after
you repair a Windows XP installation
