What are these files $UNINSTALL...?

I have windows 2003 server.

I just unhide the files in my C drive of the server and all of a sudden I
saw hundred of files name starting $UNINSTALLSHIELD.. etc. These files
altogether are almost 1 gb in size.

Are they just a temp files and can I get rid of it so I get back 1 gb of
space back for my server's C drive?

Hello Mehbs,

That are the files needed for uninstallation the patches when you update
your machine from windowsupdate.com or with WSUS.

If you are sure that you not have to uninstall patches you can delete them,
or if not totally sure, you can also burn them to disk and copy them back
if you need to uninstall a patch.
