What are these telling me?

When I boot up, I get some popup messages at startup that I don't
understand:

- "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable
disk that is not available. Insert the 'TrayApp' disk and click OK."
(It also has a pulldown for 'Use Source.')

- I cancel this, and get another popup: "An installation package for
the product TrayApp cannot be found. Try the installation again using a
valid copy of the installation package 'TrayApp.msi."

I OK out of this, and the whole thing repeats a couple of times.

It's more of an inconvenience than anything else, because I eventually
get rid of these and the startup process goes all the way through
anyway. But the name 'TrayApp' means nothing to me.

But what is this telling me, and what should I do?

This is a common problem and is usually caused by HP printer software. See:

Usually putting your HP printer software disk in the drive will take care of
it but you probably should look at HP's Knowledge Base article above.

I tried what it recommended -- putting in the installation CD -- and it
said it couldn't find an *.msi file.

Interestingly, on the first popup -- the one that prompts for the disk
-- it gives you a chance to set the location for the disk, but what
comes up in the "use source" pulldown is "1." Now, I could understand a
disk letter, folder name, or something -- but 1 as a source? What the
heck is that?

Either browse to the correct location or contact HP for help with their
product.

Don't Panic!

This TrayApp file is a part of HP Printer or Scanner program files and
has no HP fix at the time being. I
also am having this same problem. If I find a remedy I will post it in
this forum, hope you do the same.
