Thinking of unistalling Dreamscene? Think again

Hi,

After a problem whereby Windows Update would constantly pester me to install
Dreamscene update KB931133, even though I'd already installed it a hundred
times before, I decided enough is enough and I'll see if reinstalling the
whole thing would fix it. I located 3 Dreamscene updates KB931133, KB941236
& KB933713 and proceeded to remove them. Two of the updates didn't need a PC
restart but the third one did. After 21 minutes, yes that's TWO ONE minutes
the PC finally boots back up to the desktop! At one point I thought the PC
had hung. So if you're thinking of uninstalling Dreamscene, best go make a
cup of coffee or walk the dog.

The annoying thing is it took a further 60 minutes (that's 1 hour) to
re-check Windows Update and download and install the 3 Dreamscene updates
again! An hour for 3 updates is bad even by Microsoft's standards.

Why on earth is Windows Update so slow in Vista? It takes an absolute age to
"check for updates" and again when "preparing to install", only to have it
create a restore point and then finally install. Bonkers!

I suppose the only good thing to come out of this is the original problem
has been cured. Windows Update is now satisfied that I have all 3 updates.

Rant over
Rob

I uninstalled and reinstalled Dreamscene in about two or three minutes tops.
On two separate machines, one 32 and one 64 bit.

Hi John,

I dual boot XP Pro on one HDD and Vista Ultimate on the other. Windows
Update on XP is under 2 minutes to search, download and install. Vista
constantly takes on average between 15 & 30 minutes to do the same. Dunno if
Vista interacts with WU differently to XP but something isn't right here.
