Thinks there are some updates there!

Each time I now such down my Windows XP Pro PC, the shut down dialog adjusts
to "Install updates and shutdown". It reports "Installing update 1 of 1" on
shutdown but then on power back up, the same update is there.

The little "Update" icon isn't present in the task bar.

What's going on?

Difficult to say as I don't know how you find out what updates are pending.

Ahh, just seen your other post - I'll try a manual update of Windows
Defender.

If You click on the icon of the update in task bar, it tells you wich
update are pending.
