If Carey Frisch, a so-called MVP, can't help posters who are having
problems with SP2, then she/he has no business being an MVP. Yes, I
know: volunteer work, give-up time for other things, love to help
people, and so on. But blaming the average PC user for SP2 problems is
not terribly helpful. .

SP2 does have some problems and even MSFT has admitted it. Frisch is
giving SP2, MSFT and MVPs a bad name because of the denial of obvious
problems with this software. How could anyone, especially someone with
some knowledge of computing, think there would wonderful smooth sailing
with a program of this magnitude?

This 266 MB monstrosity is almost impossible for a person with a slow
dialup to download.. What were these people thinking? I suspect that we
will see changes in how this service pack is made available to users who
should rightly have the security advantages in this pack. The hasty
release with so many bugs, after many delays, is nothing to be proud of.

There is no amount of money that would make me get this service pack
now, but I may consider a CD after most of the bugs are worked out and
if the CD is free. Then I'll spend the next several years getting update
patches to fix the bugs. Oh, I forgot, the are no bugs, just stupid
computer users.

I do appreciate those MVPs who are helpful. I seldom come to this
newsgroup, but Jupiter Jones was helpful for a problem I had last year.

I have successfully assisted many folks who had issues installing SP2.
What issue are you having today?

If your computer is within the statistically probability
of having problems with the Windows XP SP2 update, then it
will have problems...no matter how small that number might
be. In other words, for thousands of successes, there is
bound to be one or two problem cases. The prerequisite for
installing Windows XP SP2 is to insure that the existing
computer hardware is entirely compatible and that the
current system is up to par. If not, then all bets are off,
regardless whether the help is coming from an MVP, MSCE or
any other "guru".

I just got finished installing it today and so far so good.
I never installed sp1 just the critical updates and so far only one
proggie on my system doesn't work at all under sp2.
By the way that proggie is the divx video player. but who needs that
when windows media player also plays those .avis if the correct codec
is installed.
My system is a two year old hewlett packard pavillion with only 512
ram and a 1.6 ghz pentium 4.

Like I said, so far so good.
I also use Zonealarm , not the windows firewall.
Interesting story about that after the upgrade, though : After the
initial boot up, windows let zonealarm load but enabled it's firewall.
My zonealarm icon had a big X on it in my systray. I immediately
disabled the windows firewall and restarted zonealarm and all was
well.
I prefer ZA because it's worked well for me for years on many
different systems.

Not a complaint, just and observation.

Take Care
