Emails disappearing from IMAP Inbox (AOL)

I've been using Outlook Express, Windows Mail and now Windows Live Mail to
receive emails with my AOL account.

I know that AOL deletes emails from their server once read and I think I
used to manually copy emails to this account to a local inbox while I was
    using Outlook Express.

Then while using Windows Mail, I shifted to POP3, because of some glitch
    with IMAP account.

When I upgraded to Win7, WLM set up my AOL account as IMAP automatically and
it seems like it's deleting read emails that are over a month old.

I don't see any local inbox created by WLM but how do I create one and make
WLM automatically download emails to it?

    Thanks.

  2. With IMAP you should have all the folders that are on the server
mirrored in WLM. Note that each mail account has its own set of
folders. Look under the AOL account in the folder pane.

Since AOL offers IMAP, it should not be deleting read messages. With
IMAP, your messages are intended to stay on the server forever.

I wasn't aware that AOL offered POP3. But if it does and you have a
program such as Outlook Express accessing it via POP3, that could be the
source of your problem. OE has the option to delete messages from the
server xx days after download. Look at Tools (ALT+T), Accounts, Mail,
Properties, Advanced. Other POP3 mail programs may have similar
    options.
