    Hi everybody,

I have the following problem with IE 7 (on a that PC uses Vista Ultimate).

It seems that I cannot download pdf files from some particular "straight"
web sites. When I click on the corresponding link, the Download dialog box
opens normally, proposing to either open or save the file. Whatever option I
choose, nothing happens. As if the Web site/system was trying to locate the
    file.

Now, with another PC equipped with XP I can download the very same files
    with no problem.

On the "Vista" PC, if I use Firefox instead of IE 7, no problem, I can also
    download those pdf files.

any particular setting I should change ? What should I try ?

Many thanks in advance for your kind help.

    with best regards,

    Daniel

    Hi,
Try the file association fix (for Vista) at:
Unable to open .PDF attachments from Windows Mail
    http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/236/1/Unable-to-open-PDF-attachments-from-Windows-Mail.html

    and/or bypass Internet Explorer:

How to prevent PDF document from opening in the browser window when clicking
    on a link
    http://www.winhelponline.com/articl...e-browser-window-when-clicking-on-a-link.html

    Hope this helps,
    Don

If the link(s) to the PDF files are in the form of:

    www.someserver.com/some.pdf

then you must have Local Machine Lockdown enabled on the machine.

    Tools||Internet Options||Advanced(tab)||Security

Remove the checkmark from "Allow active content to run in files on My
    Computer".

    Good luck,

    Hi Donald,

Didn't help. That checkbox was already unchecked.

Many thanks for your time and kind help. I do appreciate.

    best regards,
    Daniel
