Is there a way to stop Windows Media Player 10 from automatically connecting
to the internet whenever I start the program?

If I want the program to connect to the Internet, I want it to be when I
tell it to connect, not when it wants to.

What makes you say that it automatically connects to the internet whenever
    you start the program?

Every time I start the Media Player my internet connection login screen
    appears, asking me to login.

What type of internet connection do you have (dial-up, DSL, cable,
    satellite)?

Check your update options in the Player.
Be certain that your computer is 100% virus and spyware free.
