Update is not allowed to download due to regulation.

Discussion in 'Windows Update' started by super bean flicker, Oct 17, 2005.

  1. Hi,

Starting with this months round of updates, my PC can't detect updates
    any more.

The following is listed in the %windir%\windowsupdate.log file

"1220 55c DnldMgr * Update is not allowed to download due to
    regulation."

It started happening after the following update was installed

    Event Type: Information
    Event Source: Windows Update Agent
    Event Category: Installation
    Event ID: 19
    Date: 11/10/2005
    Time: 20:35:42
    User: N/A
    Computer: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    Description:
Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following
    update: Automatic Updates

    Any ideas what this means?

Demand on the servers exceeds capacity. Try again later (off-peak seems to
be between 11PM and 7 AM PDT).

    1. See the "Need more help? Tell us what problem you are having" section of
    http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=ph;en-us;6527

    2. You cannot install some updates or programs
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822798

    3a. Check Windowsupdate.log (%windir%\Windowsupdate.log) for errors
    associated with the download/install.

How to read the Windowsupdate.log file:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=902093

3b. Compare errors to those listed here:
    http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive/windows_update_codes.htm and/or go to
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com > click on Help and Support link in left
pane > Solve problems on your own.
