Thumbnails Problem

I have a problem with the thumbnails in Vista.
I have a lot of videos and have two external hard drives on which
store them.
My OS somehow is only able to retain the thumbnails for one externa
drive and the local drive.
when i connect another external hard drive, ALL my current thumbnail
are deleted and new ones are regenerated. if i don't switch between har
drives then i have no problem.
