Timeout when creating a system restore point

I get a timeout failure message nine of ten times when trying to create a
system restore point, either manually or automatically as part of installing
updates. Is there a way to increase the timeout? Updates get installed, by
no new restore point is set. And if I want to manually create a restore
point before installing new software, that usually gives a timeout error, too.

If you have any Norton or Symantec product on this PC, try disabling it
before creating the restore point. Same goes for similar products from
other manufacturers.
