The title bar in windows live mail is not highlighted when it's ac

The title bar in windows live mail is not highlighted when it's the active
Window. It is only highlighted (goes dark) if the Window is maximized. For
any other Window in Windows (except Office 2007 where it's an equally
annoying problem), the title bar for the active window is highlighted dark.
This is a really big annoyance. Frequently, when I go to close a message in
WLM (or Office 2007), I click the X in the wrong window, because the title
bar in windows live mail is not highlighted - even if it's the active Window.
So I accidentally close a window that is BEHIND the WLM (or Office 2007)
window that I meant to close. ARGH!!

What could possibly have been the logic behind this change in design?

Is there a way to fix this - or a workaround?

MANY thanks!!!

On this Vista system, if I open Outlook 07, an Outlook Message, WLM and a WLM message(4 windows), the active Window is the only one
that shows an 'red X'.

I'm using XP Home and with WLM open, even at maximised, if I open a message
or reply (as I'm doing now) I see no red x anywhere. The WLM title bar is a
different colour as always but the reply window has a title bar that is the
same colour as the menu bar. The close and resize icons all appear as really
basic icons with no colour whatsoever and you have to search for them.

Also when you hit the Restore button on the WLM main window (so it is no
longer maximised) the title bar also becomes the same colour as the menu bar
and is all but invisible.

On my XP SP3 system, if WLM is not maximized, the X does NOT show as red
even when it is the active window. It only turns red when the mouse if
moved over it.

Hi Darryl

Have you found out any kind of solution to your problem yet - I have exactly
same problem and am always closing down the wrong program which is very
frustrating.

Many thanks

When you have more than one window on the screen, use the thumbnails in the
task bar at the bottom.
Left click to select.
Right click to close.

Hi Janeen,

I just installed WLM recently, and I have this problem too. It annoys me
sufficiently that I am not going to cutover to WLM permanently from Outook
Express until I discover how to fix it. I think I have a partial workaround,
but the moment I open an email from someone else and try to reply to it, the
problem returns, whereas if I reply to the email from my inbox, it works
okay - I think, I will have to test some more. But before I waste any more
time on it, have you discovered a solution yet? I am on Windows XP Home
Edition, Service Pack 2, and WLM Version 2009, Build 14.0.8089.0726

It's probably a consequence of the Colorizer feechur.
You might try disabling that, e.g. use High Contrast.
(Press LeftAlt+LeftShift+PrintScrn etc. and if you haven't
used it before you *will* want to use its Settings dialog first.)

FWIW Winston's tip about Red Close button doesn't seem
to apply in XP, e.g. it is Red only when I hover over it but
then any Close button is Red when I hover over it.

If necessary I could discern which normal mode WLMail
window had focus because the top one has sharper title
and button graphics. ICIM that's with the Colorizer set
to Smoke. But it really doesn't make any difference to me
because I never let windows get so small that they tile or
otherwise don't overlap, so I don't understand all the
excitement about this.

BTW if you want to complain about something and you have
a keyboard with the new Flip 3D taskbar button (which on XP
just tiles thumbnails of my windows) take a look at what it does
to windows and their title bars. Useless! For this I lose having
a right-hand Win-key? <eg>

Many thanks for this Robert. I'm not quite sure how you found it, I see that
this thread started on 21 August, and I can only see posts stretching back
to 25 August in this newsgroup, but I'm a bit of a novice with newsgroups
and I'm still feeling my way around using them on WLM. I haven't got time
now to look at this tonight, but I will when I get a chance. Once again,
thanks for digging out the whole thread for me.
