Tons of .tmp files after backup

I'm using Vista Backup. It seems to leave around tons of .tmp files in the
backup target -- from 2 to 8 per minute. When I first backed up my system,
it left 860 .tmp files on my backup disk! The backup target is a LaCie
NAS.

I can delete them, of course, but it shouldn't be doing this. Is something
set up wrong?
