Is it possible to permanently disable the search bar for all windows on
vista's desktop? I never use it and it takes up space better suited for
the breadcrumb toolbar.

Also, I have the classic menu items active in desktop windows, but now
need to disable the "organize/views/open/email" toolbar. Is this possible?

Either of you guys running SP1? I am, and I don't have it. I can
enable it by going to Organize - Layout, and clicking Search Pane. I
think SP1 refined the search integration a bit. I wonder if this is why
it's not there for me. I can't remember if the Search Pane was on by
default prior to SP1, so I figured I'd post this.

I think you're talking about something else. The "Search Pane" that you
are enabling/disabling with Organize/Layout/Search Pane is an
*additional* toolbar filled with items such as "Show Only: All,
EMail,Doc, etc...".

What we're (at least I am) talking about disabling is the Search Bar
consisting of the word Search and a magnifying glass that is present in
every window on the right half of the window next to the breadcrumbs tool.

I'd kill to be able to get back a normal "c:\mypath\myfolder\Myfile"
address bar with a parent button. The new breadcrumb thing is silly.
SGI/IRIX had a better breadcrumb implementation that didn't require
"arrows" lengthening out the pathnames...and it kept the path looking
like a path.

The search pane *has* to be the one on the bottom because its the one
that disappears when you "disable Search Pane".

"Disable search pane" does nothing to the bar on the upper right--so
either it's a bug that it removes the wrong thing, or that *isn't* the
search pane on the right side.
