Touch pad no longer responds

since i got my laptop, i've been using a wireless mouse, but for the first
time today when i unplugged it, the touchpad was no longer responding. I
tried restarting and stuff but still my touchpad remains unresponsive, is
there any reason for this or anything i could do to fix this problem? using
vista premium
