TpShocks Information: Responsible for controlling the IBM Hard Drive Active Protection system found on newer models of IBM Thinkpads, including T41, T42, X40, R50, and R51. The Hard Drive Active Protection system is based on a technology similar to that used in automobiles to deploy airbags on contact: An accelorometer on the motherboard detects physical acceleration--such as when the notebook falls--and in response the system temporarily parks the hard drive's read/write head until stability returns
