Hi RC,, Hope you are still on this forum.

Thanks for such a clear answer to imeek. What is the migration path from Win 2000 OE6 to Win 7 platform. WLM, Outlook 2010, and T-bird are resident on win 7 pc.

Thank you

Hi, Leo.

Yep, I'm still here. My ISP still does Usenet. ;<)

> Hi RC,, Hope you are still on this forum.

Well, this is NOT a forum - but the EggHeadCafe forum slurped it from
Usenet - and then forwarded your Reply back to Usenet.

It has been so long since I posted that - and so long since I switched to
WLMail! And even longer since I upgraded from Win2K to WinXP - on October
25, 2001, the day WinXP went RTM (although I was in on the last couple of
months of the WinXP beta) - and then to Vista and then to Win7!

Winston is the acknowledged expert on all Live stuff, especially Windows
Live Mail. But he's probably deeply into the MVP Global Summit in Redmond
for the next few days. If his advice differs from mine, take his. I would!
;<)

Outlook (any version) is NOT Outlook EXPRESS and is not involved in this
transition. Neither is Thunderbird or any other non-MS application.

Let's see if I can just update what I said so long ago about the transition
from WinXP:

>>>>> Since it has WinXP, it also has Outlook Express, which is an integral
>>>>> part

OE was also an integral part of Win2K, so these comments still apply.

>>>>> Neither Vista nor Win7 will run any version of OE. WinXP, Vista and
>>>>> Win7
>>>>> can all run Outlook and Windows Live Mail.

This still applies, too, except that the latest WLMail build (Build
15.4.3508.1109 - known variously as Wave 4 or WLM 15 or WLM 2011) will not
run on WinXP, so it probably will also not run on the earlier Win2K.
Winston can tell you how to get the earlier WLM 2009 installed if you insist
on using "Wave 3" as a part of the transition.

Still applies IF you are using the 2009 version of WLM and IF it will
install in Win2K. And you can skip the first step (OL to OE) since you are
starting from OE.

But it probably is simpler, since you already have Win7/WLM, to just use
that last sentence: OE to WLM, via intermediate storage of ALL the OE
files.

>>>>> Or, as Winston suggested, since you are already familiar with Outlook,

This also still applies, of course. Especially since Microsoft abandoned
newsgroups and Usenet seems to be fading away. OL won't do news, but that
might not matter soon. Much to my regret!

Hi RC,, Hope you are still on this forum.

I hope this helps. ;<)

My recommendation is that you stop going to the egg* cafe and go to the
appropriate forum for help and advice on the transition.
Help and support for Windows Live Mail (downloaded from
http://download.live.com) can be found here -
http://windowslivehelp.com/product.aspx?productid=15

It has been a really, really long time since I used OE6, so I don't recall what
export functions exist, but there would be no direct import from OE6 to Windows
Live Mail. You'll probably need to do some fancy exporting/importing to get your
OE6 data in a format that can be imported into Windows Live Mail.
