Just built a new PC last with Vista ultimate/Office 2007 enterprise, then
either CPU or Mboard went faulty. They have been returned to supplier
(internet) for testing. In the meantime I had to have a working PC over the
weekend so sources a lower spec board and cpu locally and re-installed.

If I get a replacement board CPU will I have to reinstall all software and
download all updates?

I've had a quick look at vistas transfer of settings etc but seems basic and
doesn’t look like it will transfer apps and updates? Also looked at a
Laplink product lloks a bit more up to what I need. Anyone any experience of
using either product or further suggestions/recommendations?

Trevor

Unless you created an image from the original PC (the motherboard/CPU that
failed), you're unlikely to be able to use the temporary installation
(unless the temporary motherboard uses the same chipset as the one that
failed). The reason is that the Windows installer detects the hardware and
installs the appropriate drivers for the hardware detected. Normally, a
different motherboard with different chipset is too much to accommodate
without reinstalling
